Goat Yoga

Lainey Morse came up with the idea of Goat Yoga in 2016. After some severe setbacks in her life, she began spending time with her goats on her farm in Corvallis, Oregon. It was so relaxing and fun that she called that special time, Goat Happy Hour, and started sharing the sessions with friends. One of her friends, a yoga instructor, suggested having a yoga class with her goats. They did, and the idea went viral. Now, Goat Yoga can be found in most places in the United States.

Why has Goat Yoga become so popular?

There are many reasons. In the book, Goat Yoga, the light in me honors the goat in you, sold on Amazon, www.Amazon.com, we are told, “Some yogis who come to our classes are traditional in their practice and seldom deviate from their routine, while others are open to anything that brings peace and a sense of well-being to their mat—even if it’s a baby goat hopping joyfully around them!” And further, “Goat Yoga is not your usual practice. It’s about connecting with animals, finding balance amid distraction, focused and intentional movement, spending time with friends, and laughter. So. Much. Laughter!”

The Sugar Sweet Farm in Encinitas offers Goat Yoga classes and states on their website, “…a truly joyful and unique experience…a lot of giggles, goats, and great joy.” www.sugarsweetfarm.com

The Blissful Goat, located in San Marcos, says that Goat Yoga is “where your soul is pampered and refreshed by our family of goats to maintain your health and well-being. We promise our loving goats are worth the visit, and once you experience what getting back to nature and  communing with these peaceful animals has to offer, you’ll dump your regular exercise class and keep comin’ back for more. www.theblissfulgoat.com

And from as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio, my granddaughter, Lydia (shown with her fiancé Sean), says, “It’s just a lot of fun!!!
